The Nymphenburg Palace, a gift from Prince-Elector Ferdinand Maria of Bavaria to his wife, Enrichetta Adelaide of Savoy, on the occasion of the birth of the heir to the throne, Maximilian Emmanuel in 1662. The interior of Nymphenburg Castle is truly astonishing, still preserving the decorations of the time with splendid frescoes, collections of portraits and a grand ballroom in Rococo style.
One can admire furnishings and works of art from Baroque to Classicism. The tour also leads to the birthplace of the fairy tale king, Ludwig II of Bavaria.
The palace is surrounded by a beautiful park, which has been extended and remodelled in different styles over the course of time to become the pleasant and picturesque green area that we can contemplate today. Furthermore, in the park one can discover small castles, hidden in the greenery like little gems.
If you plan for a little more time, you can visit the Carriage Museum, with original objects such as sleighs and some carriages that belonged to King Ludwig II, as well as the Nymphenburg Porcelain Museum!
